Meet The Summerhouse Senior Team and Governors
Operations & Development Director and Designated Safeguarding Person (DSP)
Peter joined Summerhouse in April 2011 with over 10 years’ experience in the Work Based Learning industry. He has extensive knowledge of funding and Apprenticeship delivery having started his career in an assessing and verification roles before moving onto operational and senior roles. Peter primarily manages the Summerhouse Training Group, whilst providing support to Helen Gallop and the Summerhouse team.
Peter is also the DSP for Summerhouse.
Quality Manager BHSI and IQA
Irma joined the Summerhouse Team in June 2002 as a Senior Instructor and is now Quality Manager for Summerhouse Training. She came over from the Netherlands where she did her instructor training to an equivalent level of the BHSI. After working as assistant yard manager and gaining her qualifications as an assessor and IQA, Irma now works as the Quality Manager and lead Internal Quality Assurer for our Work Based Learning team.
Helen’s previous career was in hotel and catering, working for large hotel chains including Forte and Moat House. After a long and successful career Helen decided a change of direction was needed and in 1998 she joined Summerhouse to take over the full administration function, plus a few other challenges.
Helen is also Homing & Welfare Officer for the Stroud branch of ‘Cats Protection’.
Functional Skills Lead
Val has been with us since February 2011 and is our Functional Skills Lead for English, Maths and Digital skills. Val has a Bachelors of Science, PGCE with QTS and a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector. Before joining us at Summerhouse Training Val taught in Secondary and Further Education sectors.
Her interests include Walking, Gundog training and reading. Val previously owned her own Hunter and Event horse.
Training Group Finance Administrator
Sarah joined the business in October 2015, alongside her other part time role. Sarah brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous roles in the public and financial sectors to Summerhouse training, to support our subcontractors and training providers in data and financial administration.
In her spare time, Sarah enjoys time with her family.
CLAIRE WHITWORTH – GOVERNOR
Current Role – Vice Principal FE – Hartpury College and University. Claire is the Vice Principal FE of Hartpury College and Hartpury University, a specialist Landbased and Sport institution with large residential provision. Hartpury was graded Ofsted Outstanding in 2018 and received TEF Gold in 2017. Claire oversees all College strategic and operational curriculum and quality aspects (full-time 16-19, AEB, apprenticeships and subcontracted provision) and is the quality nominee.
STEPHEN DODMAN – GOVERNOR
Current role – Business Development and Distribution Director – Macdonald Hotels and Resorts. Stephen oversees all business development and revenue management including distribution and pricing. This follows several years with Von Essen Hotels where he was most recently sales and marketing director. For the 17 years prior to that, he worked in several positions within the De Vere Group, including brand revenue manager and general manager.
